Description: Romano-British Bronze figure of a Goddess ? A very ancient piece and most mysterious piece, almost certainly a votive offering rather that something intended to be worn. She clearly once had a base and has lost her feet. An attached label states when and where this was found - see photo 3. The Label states inter alia that this is an 'ancient Celtic Goddess holding a new born baby and a knife behind her back to cut the umbilical cord'. I never make any strange claims about items I sell, but this tiny piece has such a very odd and uncanny feel about it. Size: 1 3/16" inches high. Great ancient age patina and superb details to the casting. The original pin is still in position and very slightly moveable with care. Provenance: from a British collection, originally found by a metal detectorist in Shaftesbury, England. An extremely interesting item very worthy of research. Worldwide shipping.
