He is considered historically to be the original Latino crossover artist in the US, doing bilingual records in English and Spanish. He was very successful in the US in the 1940s and in 1954 relocated to Mexico where he became a huge star of TV, radio, movies and records and was also popular in other Spanish speaking countries. He sang in the 1946 Disney movie Make Mine Music.
