Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ANKER RZ Zig-zag Machine RARE & EXCELLENT **FRESHLY SERVICED** For sale is a rare ANKER RZ sewing machine, Serial #H1539500, manufactured in West Germany in 1954. This machine has been serviced and tested. In the course of servicing the machine, the following work was done. (See photos taken during the cleaning process.)All internals were cleaned, and all moving parts were re-oiled.The bobbin case assembly and feed dogs were disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned. Reassembled and lower tension adjusted for optimal performance. The upper tension assembly was cleaned and adjusted. The old filament bulb was replaced with a new LED bulb. This really improves your ability to see what you are sewing! The motor brushes were inspected and cleaned. They have many years of life left. I like how the light is cleanly integrated into the motor and that there are no dangling wires. The old foot pedal was replaced with a new electronic one (made in Taiwan, not China). It works very well. The wiring was also replaced. All external surfaces were cleaned. This is a very smooth and beautifully made machine. It is also one of the heaviest that I have seen in my workshop – just over 34 pounds. The bed dimensions are 14 5/8” x 7”, and the hinge points are 9 5/8” on center, so it should fit in a sewing table with a standard Singer cutout. I would recommend a table installation – its base rests on three points. Two of the points are part of the heavy steel base, but the third point is the carrier bracket for the hook. This part is spring steel and not really meant to carry a lot of weight. While on the bench in my shop I used a wood block to support the front of the machine and not put pressure on this part. At 70 years young, this Anker RZ does have a few quirks: It sews straight and zig-zag stitching flawlessly. But for the life of me I could not get the needle position (left/right) mechanism to work properly no matter how I adjusted it. So, if that is important to you, this is not your machine. Right now, the needle position lever is far left. As such, the needle is centered for straight stitching, and the zig-zag works as it should. Moving the lever to the far right will move the needle about 1/8” to the right of center. The on/off switch on the lamp is a little finicky. It turns on with no issues. When you slide it to the off position, it won’t click to “off” until the last fraction of its travel. I didn’t want to open the lamp and risk breaking the plastic to address this. Bottom line is you can turn the lamp on and off. The bobbin winder prefers extremely true (no wobble) Class 15 bobbins. If you have a wobbly bobbin it may pop off the little bobbin winder nub during winding. You can prevent this by using your finger and holding a little pressure on the left side of the bobbin to keep it on the drive nub. Vintage bobbins tend to run true, while many of today’s bobbins are wobbly. It takes round shank 16x1 needles. These are readily available online, but you won’t find them at your local Walmart. The Anker logo on the front of the machine is very faint – you only see a ghost of an outline. The logo on the rear of the machine is excellent. I have no idea why the marked difference. Perhaps a previous owner preferred a more discreet look. I’ve spent about 16 hours servicing and testing this Anker. I am not a thrift store reseller or estate auction house – my hobby is vintage sewing machines. (Check out my other machines for sale on eBay and my feedback.) Beware of other listings that say that their machine “RUNS FINE!” or “WORKS!” without showing any evidence. These RZ’s were manufactured in the 1950’s. They are a great design. But they are 70 years old and need to be serviced to ensure that they will continue to work well. You can “save” money by purchasing a machine with an unknown service history. But with repair shop rates of $80-$125 / hour, your savings will disappear the first time you bring it in for a repair. A video of the machine sewing and a stitch sample may be found in the attached photos. Included with the machine:(5) Class 15 bobbins(4) 16x1 needles (10) assorted feet, plus the zig-zag one on the machine (1) straight stitch needle plate, plus the zig-zag one on the machine Vintage metal accessory box A photo copy of the original 26-page instruction manual Electronic foot pedal/Power cord The price on this listing is likely higher than some others on eBay. But if you want to be assured of a trouble-free machine, this is the one you want! Keep in mind that this is a vintage machine. While it is in very good condition, it will have minor scratches, chips and wear that have accumulated over the years. The photos are high resolution – please view them closely to ensure you are happy with the condition of the machine. Also, rest assured that the machine will be packaged securely to ensure it arrives undamaged – it usually takes me about an hour to package my machines for shipment! Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery. Buyer pays return shipping, and the machine must be returned in the same condition as it was shipped. Customer satisfaction is my priority – if you do purchase the machine and are not 100% happy, please contact me immediately. Any questions please ask!
