Description: Early American antique primitive folk art can opener. This practical and artistically sculptural object appears to have been created for opening cans. Looks similar to a land plow.Measures 10 3/4" long, 3 1/2" wide and the handle lifts as far as 15" but otherwise sits at 7 1/4" at contraption end.Base is wood and the metal is steel I think. The wood was originally painted green but has worn and the steel has rusted. It has been well cared for and is in working condition.Importantly, this art work has not been messed with and is original. There is one old small crack to the wood where the handle is double anchored to the end of the wood base. While this could have been made in the early twentieth century, most likely done in the late 19th century.Really a gorgeous primitive folk art sculpture.
