Description: Please email with any questions. 10x16 inch lined pale blue paper, handwritten from Americus, GA, dated 1854. Letter sent to hardware merchants in Macon, Georgia reads: Sirs, You will please send us forth with 1/4 cask of brandy, 1 barel of pulverized sugar, 1 barrel of shelf gin and oblige us by so doing. We will so send our note and 50.00 dollars. You please send our note. It was due the 18th of this instance and I would have sent you the money yesterday but there was no mail. Yours respectfully, Mize & Dupree. I found an online reference to a man named Joseph William Mize, born about 1815. He married a woman named Rebecca Jane Dupree in Sumter County in 1835. Perhaps the Dupree of Mize and Dupree was one of the wife's 4 brothers: Thomas, Hilliard, Herod or James. Paper has some crinkles and is folded into its own envelope with traces of red sealing wax.
