Description: This pendant pin is perhaps the finest example of mourning jewelry that we have had in 20 years. Not only is the condition fantastic with excellent enamel, but the back is fully engraved and dated with the decedents information. It read " Robert Tait died 15th Dec 1872. Aged 39 years" Not marked for gold but hold strong at 14k and disappears at 18k. It's possible it's actually 15k, but it's at least 14k. Total weight is 19 grams meaning that it has a scrap value alone of $725. Of course this would never be scraped as the value is much higher than that as a piece of historic jewelry with such great provenance, but we wanted to illustrate the exceptional intrinsic value of this pieces in addition to the historical significance. The condition is quite fantastic for it's age. The only thing that looks to have been changed, was somewhere the C clasp was converted to a roll over. Whether a new or seasoned collector of mourning jewelry, this piece is truly special and worth of your collection. The term mourning jewelry is used very loosely here on ebay, but this is the real deal! if you love vintage jewelry, please view and follow our store as we are listing many new items every week from vintage jewelry, art, ceramics and glass, and videos games.
