Description: An incredible piece of fashion history by none other than Charles Worth! I’ve had this piece in my collection for AGES and she still makes my heart skip a beat. The materials and workmanship are exquisite! 1890s bodice of impossibly beautiful champagne silk satin with wide cut square neck front and back and nipped in waist with attached belt of green velvet with off cetner rosette. Inset panel at front bodice in stunning gold and silver silk jacquard fabric, trimmed with self ribbon bow with heavy gilt thread tassels at each end. Incredible puffed modified poet sleeves with lace cuff detail, split down the side to expose gathers of sheer silk organdy, adorned with another green velvet rosette to match the waist. The side of each split is trimmed with heavy bronzed gold ribbon. Many hand stitched stays are found inside the bodice, as well as heavy weights at each corner of them hem, along with the signature Charles Worth petersham belt; on the backside of the belt, under the signature, is a hand written number; as of yet there has been no listing found in the Worth archives as to what the number correlates to. Poor condition, lining is shredding, one lace cuff is complete missing, satin is weak and shredding. This was found in a trunk in an outbuilding at an old farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania, along with two skirts. I am unclear whether the skirts are part of the bodice, but will nonetheless be included. The first skirt is of similar (though not quite the same) silk satin with inset of rows of tiered embroidered lace; the back side has a long slit that is then tied together with 4 sets of ribbons; tie waist closure. Nice condition, no weakness detected. Large yellow stain at side. As found. The second skirt made of heavy cotton lining with overlay of pale green jacquard silk; closes at waist with hooks and eyes. Poor condition, the silk is shredding
