Description: Antique 18th - 19th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic Yatagan Yataghan Sword Click images to enlarge Description Exquisite antique 18th -19th century Turkish Ottoman Islamic large Yatagan – Yataghan sword with a characteristic ear-shaped hilt. The grip scales feature gilt copper mounts adorned in a typical Balkan filigree work design (soldered twisted wire and shaped knobs) and are set with seven large, fluted almond-shaped natural corals. A finely crafted, single-edged steel blade is cut with two narrow fullers on each face and slender grooves on the spine. The blade is ornamented with a silver inlaid script in Arabic calligraphy on one side, and a silver inlaid talismanic symbol, the six-pointed star Khātim Sulaymāni (Solomon's Seal) in a small round cartouche on the other side. Ricasso is encased with shaped panels and inset with natural turquoise stone and red paste. The wooden scabbard is bound in hand-stitched leather, fitted with a large iron chape, and locked. CONDITION: The sword is in good condition, given its age and wear. The steel blade has some slight pitting, and the grip shows a natural patina of age with some age cracks, which are common in this type of sword. The silver inlaid on the blade appears to be worn. The top of the scabbard has a gap, which could be due to intensive use. All of these aspects are typical of an antique combat sword that is over 200 years old. Please see all 22 pictures in the listing, as they are part of the object's condition description. We will provide the buyer with a certificate of authenticity. MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 83 cm (32.68 inches). Overall length without scabbard: 73.5 cm (28.84 inches).
