Description: This box was created by Lowney's Chocolates, and features a "photo" of a girl, along with the title "American Beauties". A photo used on the lithographed paper is unusual for that time - 1901 (the copyright date on the box). She is eating a chocolate using a toothpick to get it out of the box. The cover has two color printing - red and green. It is a charming box, that measures 6" long and 3" wide. It is really a cute box. It has lots of age toning and age spots. It really looks it's age, which is a good thing. Patina adds character to the antique pieces. From the internet:The Walter M. Lowney Company was a chocolate and candy business founded in Boston in the early 1880s by Walter M. Lowney, a native of Bangor, Maine. Lowney's business was a great success, and experienced rapid growth over the next fifteen years, repeatedly expanding its presence in Boston's Commercial Street area.
