These books Denby provides accounts of Peking, the Imperial City and other places he visited during his stay in China, as well as covers the arts and culture, agriculture, government, religion of the region. He also narrates the contemporary political events of his time such as the Japanese-China war and Chinese riots. - Beautiful gold embossed covers with a dragon shield design on fronts and spine - Second impression published in 1910 by L. C. Page & Company, Boston. - Black and white photographic illustrations throughout - These were once library books and have stamps inside the front to that effect. The covers are in good condition with some surface wear but gilt largely in tact. Pages inside are in good readable condition with some signs of handling but generally clean. Some separation of pages at the front of both volumes. First page of Vol. I is loose others are partially still attached.
