Description: Gorgeous and in insanely good condition antique 1920s skull cap made of a mesh embroidered all over with golden metal lamé, further embellished with flourishes of metal braid, golden sequins, and multicolored glass faceted beads Lined in a super pale green silk Other than the obvious metal patination with age and a few loose threads, and what I’m sure is a loose sequin I may have missed in my scouring, the condition on this piece is wonderfully sturdy It’s meant to perch on top of your head and due to the weave of the lining and the quality of the lamé embroidered mesh shell, it has a tiny bit of stretch 22” around, but should sit higher on your head, so measure about an .75”-1” up from where you would normally measure for hats Very much the style of hat Biba was copying in the 1970s NOTE: other than the obvious “don’t wash an antique metal hat”, if these sequins get wet, they WILL melt as this was the period gelatin sequins were used. So don’t get this hat wet This is an antique item, and as with any antique item it has imperfections. I have attempted to list them all here, however, please treat this item with the care you would treat something 100+ years old. If you wish for an item that behaves like new, please go buy something new instead.
