This sign came from the R-12 through R-15 cars of the NY subway, which were built between 1948 to 1950 by the American Car & Foundry Company. These cars ran on all the IRT routes starting with the Flushing Line. All were out of passenger service by the early 1980's. Each car had 3 "signboxs" in each side of the car above the windows. Inside the signbox resided a full rollsign. The sign is made of black vellum cloth with white printed lettering.Readings include:NO PASSENGERSSPECIALNEW LOTS AVEUTICA AVEEAST 241ST STSOUTH FERRY145TH ST-LENOX AVE137TH ST-BROADWAYCHAMBERS STBOWLING GREENE 177TH ST-P'KCH'TERBROOKLYN BRIDGETIMES SQUAREGRAND CENTRALDYRE AVENUEFLATBUSH AVEPELHAM BAY PARKGUN HILL ROAD (STICKER)149TH STREETE 180TH STATLANTIC AVEWOODLAWN ROADDYCKMAN STVAN CORTLAND PK This sign measures 22 1/2 inches wide by 14 feet long.
