Antique 19th C FADEN 'Battle of Brandywine' American Revolution PHOTO MAP Copy

Description: ORIGINAL 19TH CENTURY GELATIN SILVER PHOTOGRAPH REPRODUCTION OF WILLIAM FADEN'S BATTLE OF BRANDYWINE' MAP ENGRAVINGThis is just a great original piece. This is one of those pieces I had to buy because I was completely confounded by it. To be honest, to this point, I am still a bit confounded. From what I have been able to figure out, this is a 19th Century Gelatin Silver photograph of an original 1777 William Faden's map of the Battle of Brandywine engraving. Obviously you can find examples of the original map out there but I have not been able to find another example of this version anywhere out there. This map is smaller than the original map with the image measuring about 20 x 16 inches to the edges of the printing on the top and bottom and side to side. The full sheet measures 21 3/4 x 18 inches. This example is in excellent condition. Whoever created this example also used some sort of hand coloring to denote the different soldiers. When I looked at the colors under magnification you can see crackling like it is a sort of gouache paint and I can also see some fine paint brush hairs as well. Photograph is laid down on its original mount. I was the first to remove it from this frame which makes me believe this is the original frame. If I were to make an educated guess on this map, it was done sometime around 1877 (100th Anniversary of the battle and map) but because I cannot find any other examples I have nothing else to compare it to.
