Antique 19th C Treen Decorated Turned Wood 5” Wooden Box, Needle Case Lace Tools

Description: Antique 19th C Treen Decorated Turned Wood 5” Wooden Box, Needle Case Lace Tools Rather lovely antique turned wood decorated cylindrical box or case, with a turned wood internal barrel which the lid fits onto. With turned grooves around the box and a banded area of grooves and chequered decoration. The grooves perhaps were used for winding thread. Date is likely 19th C, maybe 18th C or earlier 1800s, it’s hard for me to know. Possibly boxwood. Lovely patina from age and handling. Darker areas in places - may have been stained originally. It contained some tools - to be included - when I obtained it - I believe they are for lace making. A couple are too long to fit properly into the box. The cylindrical box or case itself is of far more interest - it’s longer than usual and has lovely carved decoration. Very tactile. Nice old piece. Size - Approx 19.8 cm long, 3.4 cm wide, diameter ( 7 3/4” long, nearly 1 3/8” wide ) Condition - Very good antique condition, lid fits well, not loose. No splits. Good patina.
