Description: Up for sale is a throw rug that has been in the family for generations. This was in a large waterfront summer "cottage" along the shores of Long Island, NY for generations. The house dated back to the early 1800's. The house fell into disrepair and was too expensive to upkeep or pay the taxes on so the house was sold for the property. When we were cleaning out this large "cottage" this was found in the attic along with tons of other stuff. This was in a trunk along with papers and other family items dating back to the later part of the 19th century according to papers in the trunk. This was actually wrapped in a piece of cloth which is why the condition is probably so good. I don't know if this was actually made by a family member or not and that was why it was so well cared for. There are no markings on it anywhere. The condition I would say is excellent for rug being as old as it. It does have one mark on it in the center as can be seen circled in the photos. Now, due to the age of this piece I have not tried at all to clean that mark. It may come right off. This is as it as taken out of the trunk in the attic a few years ago. This unfortunately does not fit into the decor of any remaining family members homes so it is time to pass it on to someone who can appreciate it. It measures 55" long by 31" wide.
