Description: This is a late 19th century cast metal trivet/kettle stand that was produced at the A. Kenrick & Sons iron foundry in West Bromwich, England. It was once a useful fireplace tool that stands approximately 4 ¼” in height, 9” in length and 5 ¼” in width, and is made of brass and could possibly have copper as well. Designed by Christopher Dresser for A. Kenrick & Sons, this trivet features a lovely stylized motif characteristic of the Aesthetic Movement that flourished in the late 1800s in England. It is marked on the base with the founders mark, “A. Kenrick & Sons”, “No. 24” and the registration design number, “Rd33047”. This last mark is an English registry number used to assess the first year of manufacture and design. The number, “33047” indicates that this trivet was produced in 1885. It is an ornate trivet that is in very good condition with the exception of minor wear, slight tarnish and one leg being slightly loose/woobly. It has a wonderful patina and miraculously there appears to be no damage or repairs to this very old trivet. It is a well-cast metalwork piece by A. Kenrick & Sons and a beautiful work of art by the famous Christopher Dresser. Note: The family firm, Archibald Kenrick & Sons, was established in England in 1791 as a manufacturer of buckles and livery fittings. The company eventually expanded into the manufacture of cast iron articles and some brass items that were designed by the renowned Aesthetic Movement designer, Dr. Christopher Dresser. The beautiful design of this metalware trivet is attributed to Christopher Dresser (1834-1904).
