Description: This listing is for an Antique Chinese Wood Small Scholars Cabinet. It is made of solid wood, with a lovely grain. At around 18 inches tall, its smaller size makes it a perfect desk or tabletop piece to display a collection, hold books or art supplies, and much more. I believe it has some sort of lacquer finish. It has 2 Shelves inside, 3 if you count the bottom as a shelf. On the door is tacked an antique medal. Based on my research it is from the 1910 revolution, a rare piece on its own. The cabinet itself appears older. I have not attempted to remove it from the cabinet, nor do I know why it was attached there. It has simple but aesthetically pleasing handles for moving it around on both sides. They are a classic example of that simple beauty found in many of these objects. I believe the nicely detailed little pull handle is original, based on its construction. I am not sure the exact era, year, or dynasty of this piece. I believe it may have been made in the late 1800s, or early turn of the century, but it may be much older. It appears to have some sort of light lacquer finish to the wood, which does have some wear but could be potentially repaired, showcasing the gorgeous wood grain throughout. It is a great little item for collectors / decorators, gifting, display / decor etc. Nice as is or restored. Some light nicks and dings but no massive dents. It has a Signed Bottom, unfortunately I have been unable to read it. I believe it may be a later addition, but I am not sure. I have not cleaned it at all to avoid accidentally damaging the antique finish, if it is lacquer it may require special treatment to bring it back. It appears to be an antique that was modified over time as needs dictated. The original structure is the cabinet itself, which appears to not use any nails in it’s original construction, but instead used little wooden pegs. It is in solid antique condition. It has some wear and scuffing from use, but in my opinion this just adds character. The door is a little loose on its hinges, but I believe this is because they are not original. Based on the small hole on the top which goes into the door, I believe it had a little latch lock at some point. It has a few small splits, on the sides & one on the back. Its feet and shelving supports are tacked on, making me think they may be later additions, or just had nails for added sturdiness. The front foot has a missing piece, which I could be replaced.
