Description: This is an antique Chinese Nanking Cargo hand-painted, blue and white tea bowl and saucer depicting a pagoda and riverscape. The set comes with a receipt from Harrods, dated June 1986, and the items retain their lot stickers from the Christies auction of the Nanking Cargo Chinese Export Cargo which was held in April-May1986. The 'Nanking cargo', was the well-documented VOC ship 'De Geldermalsen' which sunk during her homeward journey in 1752. The contents were salvaged by Captain Michael Hatcher and offered for sale at Christie's Amsterdam in the spring of 1986. Besides some finds of metalwork, bronzes and gold, the amount of porcelain retrieved was spectacular: more than 150,000 pieces and a great variety of shapes of export porcelain was present. Tea bowl measures approximately 7.7 cm in diameter x 3.7cm high.Saucer measures approximately 11.5cm in diameter x 1.8cm high. Condition is very good. The only nibbles are to the saucer base rim, so not visible. There is a dark spot on the saucer which would have been part of the firing process. The Christies lot stickers are still in good condition. Please view photos carefully for condition. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
