Description: Antique Dark Blue Jasperware Wedgwood? Large Size Barrel Putti, Women, Trees, and Flowers Decoration For Your Greek Mythology, or Jasperware Pottery Collection- WedgwoodDarkBlue1 Details Description: A beautiful dark blue barrel with a wide mouth. The barrel has a circular base with rounded sides rising to a short neck ending at a plain rim. The neck has parallel lines lightly bunched together in the short neck. The piece, which we believe is made by Wedgwood although it has no markings, has the typical Wedgwood decoration on the exterior in the form of raised white designs depicting women, putti, an basin with fire, tall trees and four plants in planters. The barrel has dark blu background coloring on which the white raised design is. Although the piece is unmarked we believe it is by Wedgwood due to the fact that it is finely crafted and just feels old. If indeed it is an unmarked Wedgwood piece it would be from the late 1700s. This is a nice and highly decorative old piece of Jasperware with nice color and beautiful decorative motif on the sides. It would make a nice addition to any collection or as a great gift for the avid collector. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: Uncertain but the fact that it is unmarked suggests the piece was made some time in the late 1700s. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania but it was most likely made in England. Size: The pieces measure ~4" in diameter at the base, ~4 1/4" in diameter at the top, and is ~5" high. The barrel weighs about one pound and 15 ounces. Maker: Uncertain, but most likely Wedgwood. Marks: Unmarked. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice old piece of dark blue jasperware in good condition having beautiful and vivid colors, which would make a great addition to your pottery collection. Condition: The barrel is in good condition with no cracks, no hairlines, and no crazing. The piece is in dark blue with very finely crafted decoration. The piece is soiled especially along the edges of the base, on the inside, and the top and has blemishes and scratches to the blue background throughout, all of which can be seen in the photos. The piece also has a couple of very small chips at the top, which have smoothed out over the years. Finally, the piece has a few small chips to the surface of the exterior which show up as white spots in the dark blue background. Because of these issues, we are selling the piece AS IS at a fraction of its true value. A very nice old piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the barrel and for additional condition information. Our Guarantee Please view our 100% positive feedback and bid with confidence.
