Description: 144 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Offering a very beautiful, antique, hand-carved wood mold stamp press slab from Korea. This is a rice cake or cookie press that was hand-carved by a Korean farmer over 100 years ago. This used to be a traditional craft in Korea during winters when the cold prevented farmers from working outside. The farmer’s wives used the primitive sculptures to press into the wet rice cakes to create designs and beautify a simple food. This piece measures 14" in length – 2 1/2" in width - 1 1/2" thick. It has been displayed as a decoration for many decades. A special aspect of this carved stamp press is that this is a double wood press with a top slab that comes down over the tall floral pinwheel carvings. The top and bottom slabs are tied together at one end with thin wire, something they used to do to keep the top from getting lost. I left these wires as I found them. The slabs do easily come apart though as I was able to maneuver them a bit and see light between them. The wood shows wear appropriate to its age with small gouges, scratches and cracks. These do not reflect the structural integrity of the pieces but are a testament to their extreme age. I have several antique Korean cookie presses similar to this one but each piece is unique because each was hand-made by a different person. FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING!
