Description: This antique goblet set from McKee & Bros. is a true gem for collectors of early American pressed glass. The two-piece set features two stemmed goblets in the Excelsior style created by using flint or gun powder to make the glass. This type of glass will glow under a black light. This is one of the was to insure its EAPG flint glass. These goblets are in excellent condition. You can see inclusions within the glass itself consisting of air bubbles and the actual ash they used during the manufacturing process. This is also a great example of how to tell the age and authenticity of the pieces. The stemmed design and glossy finish add to its elegance, while the 3.5" diameter and 5.75" height make it a convenient choice for drinking. Crafted in the United States in the 1820-1860s, this original set is free from any damage and comes with hand wash only care instructions. The excelsior flare top adds to its uniqueness, making it a must-have for any lover of antique drinkware. I purchased this set from a collector I met and saw the pair on display in their hutch. The goblets have been on display only for decades. I included some photos of them while shining a black light on them. My black light is unfortunately not a great one but you can still tell they luminous. I also tried to zoom in on the glass to showcase the air bubbles and ash in the glass. These are not defects or damage. The set is usable. Lead added to the glass came later in manufacturing. The lead in EAPG glasses ultimately is safe for food and beverage consumption. Lead is an un breakable chemical bond and will not contaminate the drink or food it holds. That said, this set is flint glass. Both flint and lead were added purely to improve the clarity of the glass. In case you were ever wondering!
