Description: This is a pair of antique Edme Samson Mansion House Dwarf grotesque figurines. This pieces are approximately 6" tall and were made by Edmé Samson, Paris. Samson was known for his imitation of styles and models of famous European and Chinese porcelains. The Dwarf in the blue hat bears the Derby mark and just under that are the intertwined esses of Edme Samson. The other piece is unmarked - it would appear that the marks may have been scraped away, but based on bottom wear, one may be *slightly* older than the other, but they are both very likely to be Samson's work. Mansion house dwarfs were named after the figures that stood outside the London Mansion House, which was the official residence of the lord Mayor. They would display advertising posts for sales, public meetings, etc. Both figurines are in perfect condition. There are a lot of newer reproduction pieces out there, but these are genuinely old. Very hard to find. Please ask all questions before biding and thanks for looking!
