Description: Pair of rare antique porcelain vases made in England at Coxside, Plymouth by William Cookworthy between 1768-1773. Each one has a different floral design in rich, deep colors with gold gilt accent trim. Each vase measures 9-5/8th inches tall, 6-1/4 inches wide across tops and 4-1/2 inches wide across bottoms. One vase is in good condition, the other has a long hairline crack in the back that goes all the way through to the inside and two spots in the back where the iron (which they used in early porcelain) shows through, like a flat chip (as seen in photos). They are not signed or marked but came with a handwritten letter from 1979: "Plymouth Porcelain - first hard-paste porcelain to be made in England at Coxside, Plymouth by William Cookworthy who patented his formula and founded the Plymouth factory in 1768. But in 1770 the factory, which seems to have been financially unsound from the start, was moved to Bristol, and in 1773 Cookworthy withdrew from the venture......."
