Description: Antique Signed Hand-painted Victorian Lady - Felicitas porcelain cabinet portrait scalloped plate 19th century (the Edwardian era) by J & C Bavaria "Louise" Felicitas is blonde and wearing a lovely wispy off-the-shoulder sheer dress in muted pastel colors. Background is two shades of green, sky blue and some pink. She has her head tilted with what I think is a cocky little smile. The gilt has mostly worn off the very outer rim but is still in great shape in the flower and foliage pattern throughout the portrait. Signed / Stamped with J & C Bavaria "Louise". Their stamp includes crossing clovers. This mark was used between 1898 and 1923. They registered the mark in 1898 on the Louise series. Bavarian China has been produced in Bavaria (now the largest state in Germany) from the late 18th century onward. Porcelain is a hard, thin almost translucent made from a white paste containing kaolin clay and fired for a long time at high temperatures. - 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 1"
