This splendid, tall and elegant of figure of Radha is finely cast, and skillfully hand chased with stunning details. The Deity is standing in samabhanga on a circular base over a stepped square plinth. Shi is wearing a long-striated dhoti, secured by a belt with sashes extending on either side. Her naked torso with overly rounded breasts is adorned with necklaces, and her arms and legs are adorned with armlets and bracelets. Her face features a protruding nose flanked by almond-shaped eyes, plump lips, and elongated earlobes adorned with lotus flower-shaped earrings, her hair is braided in long shikha, flowing down the back. Her arms stretched out in front of her with hands holding an open loop to be mounted with ritual objects. The figure of Radha has been cast separately to the base – the figure of the goddess stands on a circular base slides into the stepped square plinth. This is a common arrangement among Karnataka bronzes. Radha (Sanskrit : राधा, also called Radhika, is a Hindu goddess and the chief consort of the Lord Krishna. She is the goddess of love, tenderness, compassion and devotion. In scriptures, Radha is mentioned as the avatar of Lakshmi and also as the Mūlaprakṛti (मूलप्रकृति), the Supreme goddess, who is the feminine counterpart and internal potency (hladini Shakti ) of Krishna. Radha accompanies Krishna in all his incarnations. Radha's birthday is celebrated every year on the occasion of Radhashtami. CONDITION: It shows age and use, with a dark patina.
