Description: Antique maritime gimbal compass made in Tokyo for the Japanese Navy by Saura Keiko Seisakusho Co. LTD. This brass nautical compass is in working order and measures 9” in diameter for the compass portion, with the mounting hardware measuring a total of 12.15” diameter and 8” tall. The original Japanese brass gimbal compass has been mounted in a lighter weight plastic housing unit made by Wagner Autopilots of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. Two of the 4 mounting brackets of the case have been broken off when the compass was removed from the vessel it was previously installed on. The original compass itself is in fine working condition with no damage to the glass and functions as it should. As seen in the photos, the brass components of the compass have been painted black which is peeling in some areas. Please see photos for details. This is a really great piece of maritime history in overall good condition for its age.
