Description: This is a vintage Japanese Showa Era (c. 1935) very useful kikai-shakuri-kana (adjustable plow plane). It was used to cut a track for a wooden door or glass in a chest. The blades are made of laminated hand forged steel with the same process as is used to make traditional Japanese samurai swords. The wood is kiln dried Japanese red oak with a nice aged patina. This kanna plane measures 7 3/4" long by 2" tall (19.5 x 5 cm) with an adjustable width of 1 1/2" to 2 3/4" (4 to7.5 cm) and a blade width of 1/8" wide (.5 cm). Having been used lovingly with exception to an aged patina, some minor oxidation it remains in very good condition.
