Antique John E Huszer Farm Haystacks Landscape O/B Painting

Description: Click photos for larger image! Description & Condition: John E Huszer United States artist (1912-1983) Up for sale is this antique circa 1950 oil on masonite landscape painting. It depicts a farm house with two story post and beam barn with a silo. There are haystacks in the foreground and stone wall lower right. It measures 28" by 24" and is in very good condition. Original painted frame measures 33" by 29". It is signed with estate stamp on back. Here is ome info on the artist"NORTH KINGSTOWN - By now most everyone has heard the story behind the Wickford Art Festival, how an artist named John Huszer, hoping for a little income, laid out his paintings on the sidewalk one day in the 1950s. How he sold not one or two but 40 paintings that season, and how soon other artists were following suit, laying out their work on the sidewalk or Updike Park for the public to peruse.By 1962, the casual display had taken on the imprimatur of an event, and the Wickford Art Festival was born. This weekend, the Wickford Art Association, the group that sprung out of Huszer’s vision, will hold its 50th art festival on the village streets. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., artists will man booths along Main, West Main and Brown streets.But while the origins of the festival are fairly well known, less is known about Huszer himself, a complicated and intense man who loved to teach art but also loved to be alone, so much so that he spent three years on tiny Cornelius Island in Wickford Harbor, bringing his paintings back to the village by boat.
