Description: This antique mantel clock is a masterpiece from the late 19th century, crafted by Japy Frères et Cie in France. Its frame is made of Jasperware, a fine stoneware with a bisque-like texture, and is adorned with a blue and white cherub relief. The clock is analog and has a Victorian era design, perfect for collectors of antique decorative pieces. This item was manufactured post-1888, based on the maker’s hallmark stamped on the movement. The mark stamped on the interior says Japy Frères & Cie Med. D’Honneur referring to the Medal of Honor won in the late 19th century. It has the most melodious, resonant tone when it chimes. The clock was estate-owned and is in fair to good antique condition. Cosmetically the clock is in great shape for its age, it could use a detailed cleaning, but there are no chips or cracks on the Jasperware. The clock is missing its pendulum and key so it will require some effort to get it back up and running. The door to the interior had sort of a thin fabric or screen on it that is tattered. All of that considered, it’s really quite stunning and presents beautifully. Look closely at the pictures for further condition reference. It measures 10 1/4” H x 9 1/8”W x 4 5/8”D.
