Description: This listing is for an Antique late renaissance 1600s- maybe early 1700's - Ornate Hand Forged steel Lock. Likely from a Castle, Church, Estate, or Fortress. Based upon my research it may be a Renaissance era piece, from the 1600s to perhaps early 1700s. I believe it is originally from Europe - This style of Lock was widely used in the Wealthiest Estates, and it is too old to be of U.S. manufacture. It is an excellent piece for collectors, decor / display, gifting, restoration / use, and more! It has a ornate and detailed design around the piece, frilling out from both sides, the edges are in great shape as well. Near the tip there is an antique repair, it looks to have been done in the 1700s by a blacksmith, and in my opinion it adds to the pieces mystique. It has 3 sturdy locking bolts that extend from the lock side, making sure whatever door you choose is fastened tight! Originally it would have had a removable front panel in front of the locks internals. This is missing now, lost through the centuries. A replacement could be made of metal, or perhaps glass / plexiglass so as to display the highly interesting internal mechanism. It does not have its key, and a section of the mechanism may be missing- I am not a lock expert so I am not sure. The internals that are present are in good antique condition, with no obvious bending cracking or breakage. Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers are always considered. Please see photos for details & measurements- comes as shown. Stored in a temperature controlled room and shipped with great care. A Fantastic piece to add to your Collection of Early Antique Locks and Keys, use on a very special door, or give as a "jaw dropping one of a kind" gift.
