Antique Lot 6 GERMAN FIGURATIVE PORCELAIN Ink Stamps Wax Seals Uber Rare ~ OOAK

Description: LOT OF 6 ANTIQUE PORCELAIN DOCUMENT SEALS This listing features a lot of 6 unique wax seals or ink stamps depicting noteworthy people, real and literary. The consensus of friends, family, and experts is that they look like miniature busts of Charles Lindbergh (goggles), Lady in Pink (unknown), Friar Tuck, Abraham Lincoln, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. We’re probably all wrong, but it is fun guessing. The tallest stamp is Lincoln, at approximately 3 3/8 inches and the shortest is Friar Tuck, measuring approximately 3 inches. The bases all measure 1 3/8 inches in diameter. They are made from turned wood and hand-painted black/brown. Some of the bases have paint wear but not as much as would be expected. An easy fix if it bugs you. They date back to the early 1920s and are German, judging by the beautiful face painting. The actual seals/stamps, that would have been attached to the bases, are no longer present. The nail holes where they were once attached can be felt through the thin gold felt coverings. Two of the porcelain busts are detached from the bases, all the others are securely intact. They are mounted to metal rods that screw into the bases, so a little bit of glue be a quick fix or not (use gravity). I leave repairs and patina changes to new owners. They’ve been in storage for decades and show a little ‘time grime’ so a gentle cleaning should be done. Research did not find any others like them but did learn that wealthy individuals liked to commission porcelain seals that were only commissioned by wealthy individuals for personal use. They are considered extremely rare, are one of a kind, and are conservatively valued at $100 each in their present condition. They are in remarkable condition, except for Oliver Hardy. His nose and the edge of his cap brim are chipped. I think it’s funny that his nose is chipped since that’s where he got smacked around the most by Stan Laurel. Also interesting is how they aren't wearing their iconic bowler hats, but the character hats in a very early film before they adopted the bowlers. These are priceless souvenirs from a simpler time made by hand you can hold in your hands like little works of art. If you have a rare book or document collector in your life, they would make a sensational gift.
