Description: Dorset by Richard Blome 1715 Copper engraved map on hand laid paper. Later hand colouring. Richard Blome (active 1669 - 1705) was a heraldic writer and cartographer working in the latter half of the 17th Century. He was a prolific, but not at all original, worker and indeed was frequently accused of plagiarism, although it must be said for him that he usually made no attempt to hide his sources. This map was originally made to appear in 'Speed's Maps Epitomiz'd' published in 1681. This contained maps based on the most recent editions of John Speed's maps. The maps were engraved by Wenceslaus Hollar and Richard Palmer (active 1680-1700). The map plates were acquired by publisher Thomas Taylor after Blome's death and were reworked and published in his county atlas 'England exactly described' published in 1715. This map comes from a copy of this atlas. Page size is 20cm by 25.5cmMap area is in average condition for age, engravings are clear, some browning and stains, particularly on the folds. Repaired split down the fold. Hand colouring.Folds as issued. Blank on the reverse.See photos for condition UK Postage free
