We are unsure as to the trade card’s exact age but believe that it dates to the 1890s. The trade card is marked as follows: COMPLIMENTS OF MELLIN’S FOOD. “OUR BABY”. MELLIN’S FOOD. IS A CAREFULLY SCIENTIFICALLY PREPARED INFANT’S FOOD, MADE FROM BARLEY AND WHEAT. IT IS A DRY EXTRACT, OF UNIFORM COMPOSITION, FREE FROM STARCH, AND IS SOLUBLE IN WATER; IT KEEPS IN ANY CLIMATE. MELLIN’S FOOD IS TO BE ADDED TO FRESH COW’S MILK, WHICH IT MODIFIES AND MAKES EASILY DIGESTIBLE. IT SOFTENS THE TOUGH CURD OF THE MILK, MAKING IT LIGHT AND FLAKY LIKE THE CURD OF MOTHER’S MILK.
