Description: This is a beautiful sketch on paper made by Osmond Romieux, a French sailor and Naval Officer and well regarded watercolorist who was active from 1841 until 1887 - his birth name was Prosper Halvor Henri Oscar Romieux. His career took him to New Caledonia and Peru where this and several other pieces I have available and listed were completed. His complete biography is way too long to share on eBay (it's easy to locate on Google) but he had a fascinating life and his work is well regarded and in several permanent collections. This work depicts the beach at Callao where Romieux was stationed for a time. Several other works in the grouping that I have available from from this time in the mid 19th century including several from Lima and a few others from Callao including the French Naval fortress at Callao. Dimensions are approximately 8" x 12.5". Mounted on some kind of woven backing. Signed in the lower right corner of the drawing. A fascinating piece of both French Naval and Peruvian history. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
