Description: Antique "Neptune" Creamer, Opalescent ivory body, Pink Handle, Shell Footed, Possibly German We are pleased to share this special piece with you from our Grama's collection! Grama lived to 101.5 years old and loved pretty and practical things. This antique creamer is simply glowing! DESCRIPTIONSimilar in style to that of an Irish Belleek style creamer with the Neptune pattern, this porcelain creamer is in the shape of a shell sitting on shell feet. It has an ivory opalescent glaze, pink handle and shell feet. Similar to Belleek, this creamer appears to be made of a water-thin parian china, a famous type of bisque porcelain. This ceramic piece has a unique popular shape, delicate body, and luminous pearl-like iridescence. It measures approximately 3 inches high, 4 inches from spout thru handle, and 3 inches wide. Maker's Mark: We do not believe this to be made by Belleek due to the color and makers mark and the color may be less creamy-yellow than Belleek. Between the late 1800s to the early 1930's, many factories outside of Ireland (e.g. America, Germany and others) employed workers who had worked at the Irish Belleek pottery. Their goal was to produce pieces that rivaled Irish Belleek pottery. For several reasons including a lawsuit, these other factories were prohibited from using the word "Belleek" on their goods. The "Neptune" pattern is very popular with original Belleek being very pricey. Imitation Belleek-style pottery can be highly collectible because of the high quality and because they were made for such a short period of time. This creamer was likely made in the 1920's and is marked on the bottom with "7575". Our best guess is this piece made in Germany, a country respected for high quality craftsmanship.
