Description: ARTIST: Georg Emil Libert is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bonham’s, Christie’s and Sotheby’s. He was a popular exhibitor at the famous Charlottenborg. He was taught by famous Danish Golden Age artist J.L. Lund and graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen. His earliest works were mainly cityscapes from Copenhagen, but later Libert became inspired by the Danish Golden Age and became a very skilled landscape painter. He also embarked on several study trips to the Alps, Italy, Norway and Sweden. Today many of his works can be found in various art museums in Denmark. PAINTING: Oil on board on canvas. The painting is an atmospheric rendering of a small community, consisting of a few log cabins situated in a forested valley. In the background tall mountains tower above the scene. I think the scene is from one of his study trips to either Norway or the Alps. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1860-1890. Signed: “GE Libert” in the lower left corner. SIZE: With frame: 42 cm/16.5 * 34 cm/13.4". Without frame: 27,5 cm/10.8" * 19,5 cm/7.7". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
