Description: ARTIST: Unknown. The artist might be a student from the famous I.L. Jensen’s school, because the composition and background and age all resemble the unique style and time period of the school, but I am not 100 % certain. The I.L. Jensen’s school was a school for young women, in which they were taught to paint still life compositions with flowers and fruit, which, for the main part of the 19th century, were seen as the only appropriate motif for female artists. However, many of these women excelled at the school and proved to have incredible talent, and today the flower paintings from this school are regarded as some of the best in Denmark and are widely sought after. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a detailed and skillfully made rendering of a bowl filled with fruit, berries, leaves and with a few blue flowers in front of it. Based on the type of frame and the style of painting, I’ll date it to somewhere between 1850-1870. Unsigned. SIZE: With frame: 38,5 cm/15.2" * 30,5 cm/12". Without frame: 27,5 cm/10.8" * 19,5 cm/7.7". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint, but it has quite a bit of age-related craquelure. The frame has scratches and stains.
