Description: This is a finely rendered and historically significant Antique Old 1940s Japanese Impressionist American Soldiers WWII Oil Painting on Canvas, by the 20th century Tokyo, Japanese painter, Hayashi Nobuo (b. 1925.) This piece depicts a military ceremony displaying hundreds of American soldiers, possibly sailors or Marines wearing their dress white uniforms, and standing in a bucolic and green open field. I cannot determine which military branch is depicted, but perhaps you know about the subject which is shown in this painting? I assume that this scene depicts some event in the immediate Post-War era of American Occupied Japan, since the artist was very active during this time, and was never known to have painted outside of his home country. Multitudes of white-clad soldiers, forming various marching groups and platoon formations can be seen, along with two prominently displayed American flags. This scene was possibly a ceremony to honor the dead American soldiers who lost their lives fighting Japan during World War II. Signed: "Nobuo" in the lower left corner. The subject matter of this painting strays significantly from the artist's usual Japanese working class Social Realism oriented paintings. Based on this, I assume that the scene which is depicted bears some historical significance. Approximately 27 1/4 x 31 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 19 5/8 x 23 3/4 inches. Good condition for age, with moderate scuffing, soiling and edge wear to the vintage period gilded wood frame (please see photos.) Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
