Description: Depicting a seascape with wonderfully captured cumulous clouds. Looks to be perhaps a bright and breezy spring day. There are suggestions of sailing boats on the water and gulls in the foreground. The location is more than likely off the Scottish coast. David Young Cameron (1865-1945) was one of Scotland's most prolific and influential artists. Born in Glasgow, the son of a minister, and in the early 1880s he went to study at Glasgow School of Art. By 1885 he had gained a place at Edinburgh School of Art. Most of his work consisted of Scottish landscapes (especially scenes of mountains and architectural views), and he is best known for his etchings of buildings, including Gothic churches on the Continent-rich, somber works for which he established a reputation as one of the outstanding printmakers of his day. Painting is signed D.Y.C. and measures approximately 11 inches by 14 inches with frame. Painting is mounted in an old frame. Condition commensurate with age. Asking $1300 or best offer (I paid nearly $2000). Buyer responsible for shipping costs. I can obtain a quote for you. Shipping to Europe and USA only.
