Description: Offered here is a lovely piece of history- a 19th century Brown Transferware on white ironstone serving platter produced by Powell, Bishop & Stonier pottery of England with a depiction of the Crystal Palace in London. The Crystal Palace was an amazing Victorian cast-iron and plate glass-structure built in London as part of the Great Exhibition in 1851 to display examples of the Industrial Revolution. It unfortunately was destroyed by fire in 1936. This platter is in very good condition for its age. There are no chips or cracks. There is a flea bite roughness along the right and left edges from production bubbles. There is some slight darkening in areas on the front of the platter indicating use and there is shallow crazing. It weighs 4 pounds prior to packing and measure 16” long by 13.5” wide. A fellow Ebayer so graciously informed me of the actual date this platter was produced based on her knowledge of ironstone and their markings- May 6, 1882. Thank you so much! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or need for more pictures. Thank you for your interest!
