Description: Antique Pressed Glass BANDED STAR Compote Candy Dish W Lid KING & SONSc.1890 Pittsburgh PA- the company was sold in 1891 to US Glass which did not make this pattern10.75" high, 7.25" across opening, 4.75" pedestal base. AS RARE AS YOU CAN GET- HIGHLY Collectible. One of the most beautiful patterns this company made, catches light beautifully. Features a softly rounded quadrant form [like a 4 leaf clover] with a fancy 4 sided stem and base.Impressed stars in a ribbon-band, band has a scalloped edge and a stippled border which looks like Victorian lace. Pressed embossed shells at the rounded edges and on the lid's knob.Classified as a large compote dish with lid, this piece is terrific as a fancy candy dish Very good antique condition, does have a small squiggly straw mark on the inside of body and several small flake chips off of the top rim of lid from it fitting onto the base- very minor- small and rough. One small chip on lid also. See last 3 pics & use zoom- superficial and do not cut across edge of rim. Base is without ANY flakes or chips, edges on this piece are VERY slightly rough around edge which is typical of the molding process for the time period. This is GREAT piece for a collector. A special piece. Will be packaged with xtra wrap and care to arrive in tip-top condition. I only list items that I think are unique and of good quality. I represent my items as accurately and clearly as I can, and believe it is always better for you to have too much information than not enough! Please ask any questions before bidding, I will happily respond. Remember, these are vintage items and will have reasonable signs of age and wear which only adds to their personality, appeal and "funky vintage-ness". They are not in their original boxes unless noted. I do not excessively clean items or remove age patina, as I want to leave that option for the buyer.
