Description: Description: This is an interesting piece. The painting appears to be oil reverse painting on an oval piece of glass. It is artist signed—Sticler. The man is dressed like a preacher...although I thought he had a resemblance to Einstein. I bought the piece from a collector that had a number of pieces of art from named artists. I can't find anything about the artist Sticler, but the quality is very nice indeed. The frame is made in Japan. It is porcelain with hand painted flowers and gilding. The frame is a brass colored metal. The piece measures 5.25” x 4.75” and .5” thick. While the picture fits so well, I do have the impression that the painting is much older...maybe close to 1900 while the frame is likely after 1952. (If as older as the painting, it would have been marked Nippon.) In any case, both pieces are lovely. Condition: Very nice vintage condition.
