Description: This antique polychrome, wood hand carved and hand painted statue I believe is of Saint Francis- I could be wrong on that, I’m basing that information on pictures I’ve seen on the Internet. This saint is holding a book in his right hand and a branch (or feather) in his left. He is bald with a crown around his entire head, and he has a beard. His ears are carved in great detail and can be seen from the flat back and a beautiful carved and painted face. I don’t know if it was intended originally to hang on the wall as it easily could since it only weighs about 1.9 pounds. It has an old patinated wood and Some of the paint has chipped off over the years. I acquired it off of eBay about 15 years ago when I was looking for a Santos. I have a 2nd auction for another saint that I bought at the same time, so check out my other listings I will combine shipping. This saint stands 12” tall and is approximately 4” wide x 2 1/2” deep. Unsure of its age but based on the carving I would date these to the 1800s possibly older, but I am unsure I am downsizing so it must go.
