Description: Scheibe-Alsbach porcelain figure of Napoleon Bonaparte crossing St. Bernard Pass, Germany in the Alps. Title below reads “Napoleon Bonaparte 1er (premier) Consul ais Passage du Alpes”. Impressed numbers on lower back “10164”. Hallmarked underneath with impress S in a horizontal “X”.This piece has an obvious old repair on the front right leg of the horse. This repair procedure, called a "sleeve", discolored over time, giving an obvious darker color than the underlying bisque. This repair has been well considered in initial pricing of the item (price reduced 2/3rds). This is modelled from a famous painting by Jean-Jaques David “Napoleon Leading the Army Over the Alps”. The strongly idealized view of the real crossing in May 1800 was commissioned by the King of Spain. It has become one of the most commonly reproduced images of Napoleon. In fact, David painted 5 versions of this pose. Hallmarks: Impressed "S" in crossed lines as seen in photo #2. Approximate age: Maker used incised hallmark 1925 - 1972. Due to discoloration and method of old repair, I believe this piece dates to the earliest end of that range. Dimensions: 4" wide x 2.5” long x 5-1/8” high Condition: Good giftable condition, with obvious old repair (discolored) to front right leg of horse. Also, slight gold paint erosion on edges and high points (cape around left knee, left elbow, highest tip of cape, etc.) No visible crazing or discoloration. No chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, cracks, hairlines, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo's. Don't feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. Unpacked weight: 8 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase.Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
