Description: Antique very rare STANLEY USA No 13 Type 2 Circular / Compass Plane Bailey Patent 1871 This is Leonard Bailey’s design for a circular plane. It has a flexible steel sole which can be made concave or convex by manually bending it. Circular planes are used to plane curved sections, like rockers, wheels, stair parts, for boatbuilding, etc. The Bailey Patent of 1871 - March 28, '71 - is stamped on the front adjuster tab. The earliest known woodworking planes manufactured by The Bailey Tool Company were made under Patent No. 112,675. granted to Joseph R Bailey on March 14, 1871. Please review photos carefully. What you see is what you get. Surviving planes (like this one) made under the 1871 patent are considered very rare.
