Description: RARE antique Georgian era mourning ring, a gentleman's ring back then at size 8.5-9, and in the rare form with snake shank (see both sides. Seed pearls surround the oval locket within which is a small lock of hair. Pearls are 2-2.5mm, quite even in size and lovely pearlescent shimmer, even after all these centuries. I'd put it c.1810-40. The snake is most sought after in these old ones, too. Black kiln-fired enamel outlines the oval of pearls on the arched crown of the ring, making a beautiful total impact for display or for wear. Very good to excellent condition, but one issue to be sorted. I've stretched it on one photo to show that on one side it will need a tiny solder by your goldsmith if you intend to wear it much. It does not even show in display, rests as it should, but that one side is loose from the crown at the snake shank. I just didn't get it to my goldsmith in all these years, now will discount it so you can do it to your liking. Or not, if you only intend to display it. Beautiful old treasure just as it stands. RARE snake!
