Description: This item is a 38 1/4" right-handed hickory shafted iron. It is a long iron with unusual, lined face scoring. 27* loft and an E 1 swingweight. Marked A G Spalding & Bros Makers Harry Vardon on the back. This was part of the iron set Vardon designed for Spalding in 1899 when he came to the US to tour the country. It was Spalding's first lined face iron, and the diagonal grooves were intended to impart cut spin to a long iron so that it would stop softy on the green. This was a shot preferred by Vardon. The head is clean and not all rusted. It does have the expected play nicks and dings. Please look at the many zoom pictures to get a better idea of condition. The shaft is an old hickory. It is straight, I see no cracks and it is tight at the hosel. All hickory shafted clubs should be re-set prior to play. The grip is an old built-up long leather wrap that is in fair vintage condition. If you are considering playing with this club, while I see no issues with this hickory shaft (other than those mentioned above), I suggest that whipping be added just above the hosel to help prevent breakage. These hickory shafts often have hidden defects and are liable to break at any time. I do not guarantee hickory shafts against breakage when put into play. Never hit an old hickory shafted club off a driving range mat. Never hit an old hickory shafted wood with a hard range ball.Shipping in the US is calculated and based on a 3-pound box.
