Description: On July 16, 1969 as Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin prepared for their historic journey to the moon, NASA Art Program artist Paul Calle was with them as they discussed the Mission at breakfast and during their preparations as they Suited Up. Calle was the only artist allowed access to the astronaut crew of Apollo 11 and the dozens of his pen and ink sketches made that morning stand as a unique historical record of the activities of the crew in the hours before they launched to the Moon. The majority of these sketches can be seen in the book, Celebrating Apollo 11, the Artwork of Paul Calle written by Chris Calle. Prior to the Apollo 11 launch Calle was asked to document the Suiting Up of Apollo 7 astronauts Walt Cunningham, Wally Schirra and Don Eisele as they Suited Up for their Apollo launch on October 11, 1968. Calle quietly moved among the astronauts sketching the activity surrounding them. The pencil drawing which was made into this limited edition print is based on his pen and ink sketches of Cunningham. This quality limited edition giclee fine art print is signed by Apollo 7 astronaut Walt Cunningham. Print paper size is 13" x 19" with an image size of 11" x 14' . Paul Calle was the only artist present with the Apollo X1 crew as they prepared for and Suited Up for their historic launch to the Moon on July 16, 1969. Calle's pen and ink on the spot sketches of the "Suiting Up" are an amazing documentation of the preparation by the crew and are on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington , DC. Calle was one of the original group of artists chosen by NASA to cover the Mercury program and document in pencil and paint the beginning of the US Space Age. As an official NASA artist Calle covered the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and the Shuttle programs spanning three decades of Space art.
