The vessel has a narrow body and one handle at the neck, with no pouring lip. Used regularly in ancient Greece during the period from 700 to 400 B.C. to keep oil for daily use or preparing for rituals such as marriage or burial. This one has a broken base, where the stand was to keep it upright. The black painted decoration has deteriorated and appears clearly only on one side. One band has the Greek key design. It measures about 8 ½ inches in length. Please see photos.
