Description: Archery Coaching - Anatomic Model For the use of Archery Coaches as an aid for the demonstration of the principles of shoulder collapse, unit aiming and the effects of varied width of stance. Best suited for use with small groups of beginner to intermediate level archery students. A full explanation of these processes can be found in Ray Ashford's excellent text "Archery Anatomy". The anatomic model provides an easily understood visual and practical demonstration of shoulder collapse, unit aiming and stance based on Ashford's theoretical explanations and vector diagrams. The model represents a right-handed male archer. It is made from stainless steel with stainless steel bow limbs, aluminium riser, Spectra bow string, stainless steel fasteners and stands 12" tall. It is portable and weighs just over one kilogram (compared to 640gm for the aluminium model). It is more decorative, has more "bling" than the aluminium model, but is still fully functional. Most intermediate level archery students will gain a better understanding of what they are trying to achieve on the archery field by seeing these principles demonstrated on the anatomical model. Allen keys, combination wrench and bow stringer are provided to help string the bow and for adjustment of the two friction joints (left ankle and right shoulder), general maintenance and adjustment.Full user instructions are included. This is one of a total of only 6 units produced (2 prototypes, 2 aluminium, 2 stainless steel).Features: Position of the right foot is adjustable to demonstrate the effects of width of stance on unit aiming. Detent positions are provided for Shoulder Width, and for legs Parallel (ankles same width as hips). Ankle and hip joints are articulated to enable the hips to "swing" forward and back in the shooting plane to demonstrate the principal of "Unit Aiming". The bow elevation can be clearly seen to rise and fall as the hips swing.The right (drawing) elbow can be adjusted for height through the friction joint in the right shoulder. The right elbow joint is free to pivot (just as archers want theirs to be). The right collar bone is fixed.The left (bow) shoulder is articulated to both pivot and to rise and fall. For simplicity of demonstration (and manufacture) the left clavicle and scapula are modelled as a single unit. Again. for the purpose of demonstration there is no provision for resistance in this movement as would be provided by the muscles of a real archer.The height of the bow hand is controlled using the black support arm and friction lock on the back of the model. The hand can be raised and lowered to demonstrate shoulder collapse. With the hand in a raised position, finger pressure can be applied to the underside of the arm to demonstrate that the draw force is holding the shoulder down in a stable position. When the bow hand is lowered, to a position below the equilibrium point, the shoulder will fly up automatically. Finger pressure can be applied to the top of the shoulder or arm to demonstrate that muscular effort must be used to hold the shoulder in a low (and less stable) position.
